The STARIA's innovative use of interior space is made possible by a 3,273mm wheelbase, with an overall length of 5,253mm and a width of 1,997mm. Its overall height of 1,990mm is optimized for passengers to comfortably enter and exit the vehicle and is tall enough for a school-age child to stand up and move around with ease.

Available cargo space varies based on seating layout; the minimum is 117 books and the maximum reaches 1,303 litres.

As powertrains, the STARIA offers a 2.2 liter CRDi diesel engine. The newly upgraded diesel engine is mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission, delivering 177 hp and 44 kgf-m (431.5 Nm) of torque. The traction can be front or total (H-TRAC) and it has three driving modes to adapt the behavior of the vehicle to the driver's needs: Eco, Normal and Sport.

Its high-efficiency, water-cooled turbocharger features an upgraded compressor and turbine for higher torque output at low speeds.

Hyundai Motor has optimized each mechanical option for minimal sound, vibration and harshness, better shift feel for high torque performance and good acceleration. It has also optimized the hydraulic operation for better operation.

The mechanical updates have allowed, in turn, to improve ride comfort thanks to the application of a multi-link suspension on the rear axle. Body lean angles have also been improved through the suspension. Also, improvements in the brake equipment, both calipers and discs, provide forceful stopping power despite the large size of the vehicle.

In addition to mechanical optimisations, aerodynamic upper body design and lower body improvements result in a low drag coefficient for increased fuel economy.
