Kia Motors is developing a new compact SUV for the Indian market that will compete with Maruti Suzuki's Vitara Brezza and Hyundai's Venue. The model, codenamed Sonet, will be the brand's third offering in India, following the Seltos and the Grand Carnival.

The new Sonet compact SUV from Kia Motors will be distinguished from Hyundai's compact SUV by its trademark Kia style, which will be built on the same model as the Hyundai Venue. The new model will be manufactured at the company's Anantapur factory, which has a 3 lakh-unit annual facility. Apart from the Seltos and Grand Carnival, the company would need more conventional goods to fully use this potential.

Within, the Kia Sonet is expected to have features identical to those seen in the Venue. Smart networking through UVO Connect technology and an eSIM for internet connectivity are likely to be included with the model. The Hyundai Venue's engine offerings will also be brought over. Two petrol engines will be available, including the 1.2-litre Kappa and the 1.0-litre TGDi. As an option, the latter will be combined with a seven-speed DCT transmission. A 1.4-litre CRDi diesel engine with a six-speed manual transmission will also be available.
