Initially launched in 1998, the Nissan Cube was only available for the Japanese market. It proved to be successful in the country, and it was decided to introduce it to the rest of the world as well. The second and third generations of the car released from 2005 till 2016 were statistically the most popular models of the Cube. Aside from its unorthodox shape, the car features some premium advantages that made it so much loved by the masses. It stopped production in 2014.

The shape and the funky overall exterior and interior may seem to be attractive to the young, but it is also known to be popular among older people who find getting in and out of the Cube easier, thanks to easy access as compared to other conventional cars.

Nissan Cube: Through the Years

First-generation (Nissan Cube Z10)

This was the first generation of the Cube, called the Z10, produced in 1998. It was similar to the Nissan Micra. This was a compact car with a 1.3-liter inline-four engine, four-wheel drive, and continuously variable transmission or CVT. The first generation was produced and marketed in Japan only, with models exported sparingly to other countries.

Second Generation (Nissan Cube Z11)

The second generation came out in 2002, with a number of improvements from the previous generation. It features a larger and roomier cabin, with a 1.4-liter inline-four engine. It also employed a state of the art electrically powered system called e4WD, which allowed the power to be transferred to the rear wheels if the front wheels are spinning.

Third Generation (Nissan Cube Z12)

This was the global model released worldwide and was released at the Los Angeles International Auto Show in 2008. It was the first time that the model was officially exported to other countries as a brand-new car. The exterior was improved, and curved styling introduced, as well as minor changes in the interior and performance. It is also known as the Nissan Cube 3.

Engine and Performance
The latest Nissan Cube car is available in a 1.6-liter petrol and 1.5-liter diesel engine variants, which have been specifically produced for the global market. You can opt for the manual transmission or the more apt continuously variable transmission. There is another variant which is loaded with a 1.5-liter petrol engine and a CVT with a centrally mounted shifter which is liked by many.

The engine can produce 122 horsepower and a torque of 127 ln-ft. It is expected that the new Cube gives almost 30 mpg of fuel economy on the motorway and slightly less than that within the city.
