The Honda Pilot is the company’s 3 row family SUV and it has 3 rows, by the strictest legal definition.
Ok not really, but it’s not like you get a lot of room in the third row and also not a lot of trunk.
The next gen Pilot has been spied and it’s bigger, badder, and bolder
Here’s what we know
We just did a spy of the next gen CRV which will have more subdued styling from an exterior perspective.
The same things with the next gen Civic
I covered this in the last video, but that just seems to be the way manufacturers are going.
Simple, sterile design aimed at appearing more “luxury” focused.
NOw of course this Pilot is all covered in Camo, but we can see a more simplified headligh design, the grille seems a bit more prominent, and the body seems less boxy and more sculpted signifying it’s taking its cues from the new Acura MDX which wouldnt be a huge surprise
The interesting thing is the profile looks swoopy and MDX-ish but the grille seems to be more squared and prominent almost taking note from the new ridgeline.
I’m already sensing an identity crisis between luxury and ruggedness
Speaking of the MDX the Pilot will share the same architecture and the chassis will be stiffer so if you ever needed to go offroad then it’s better for it
Now like I said, the big news is the upsize: wheelbase is almost 3 inches longer. And I know that doesn’t sound like a lot ladies, but in a game like this it’s significant
This of course, will translate directly to rear and third row space making it easier to get back there and be comfortable back there.
POwertrains should be the same 3.5 v6 with 290 hp and 267 lbft with a 10 speed gearbox with a FWD base or AWD option
However, maybe not in its 2023 MY, but at some point we’re going to need to see, at the very least a Hybrid system.
They’ve already got a good one under the Accord which Honda says should return 41 mpg all day every day so under a Pilot I’d assume good for 35 mpg.
This is crucial because the Highlander hybrid i just tested was great and gets 36 mpg. However it’s a bit small so if the Pilot can get 35+ mg and be bigger then it’s a no brainer for me
Of course as far as interior design we cant see anything yet, but expect a more simple and clean design with a tablet style touchscreen and wireless ACP and AA as an option
New Honda safety sense, and possibly level 3 autonomy. Something only honda/acura can claim at the moment
From what we can tell so far it sound like a great improvement so let’s hope they nail the styling and give us a hybrid
This 4th gen Pilot is scheduled to reach lots in late 2022 as a 2023 MY
