Hello neighbors. It's Brad here at etrailer. And today we are going to be taking a look and installing the Tekonsha T1 trailer wiring harness on a 2022 Kia Carnival. So our trailer wiring you can see is a four pole. And this is going to be a necessity for any time you're towing a trailer that has lights, because this is going to send a signal through a module, which is safety protected to keep your OEM lights safe. And it's going to send that signal from those taillights to this, to the trailer.
And that way you can indicate your brake lights, your turn signals, and running lights to the cars behind you while towing. This kit is custom fit for your Kia. And that way it's just simply plug and play. It's extremely easy to do and everything that you need is in the kit. And so for a few minutes of your time for install, you'll be able to hook up the trailers right away and be able to use this.
Now, the plug has a dust cap actually molded into it, which is nice. That way it doesn't ever get lost. And you can, when not using your plug, use it as a loop in your safety chain loop here and that's going to hold it in place. Now, if that's not the look that you're wanting to go for, and you want something a little more secure, we do actually sell brackets here that can attach to this hitch with no drilling necessary. And that way you have your plug mounted, nice and secure.
This wiring harness is extremely easy to install on your Kia. So I'm going to walk you through the steps and that way you can do it yourself at home. To get our installation started, it's going to be a pretty simple one. We're going to be taking this plastic panel on the driver's side off. Now we do have a hitch installed.
So we have a trimmed panel. So from the factory, there's six of these, but chances are, if you're going to be installing wiring, you would be trimming this as well. So we'll have five of these to pop out and I'm just going to use my flat head screwdriver, just kind of wedge in there and just give it a quick twist and it should pop open. Now, if you we're doing your hitch and your wiring at the same time, you're probably just going to want to leave this off during the installation until the very end. Now, once you have all your plastic pins popped out, make sure that you keep them handy for that re-installation later on. Now some of these can get a little intricate and running power wires. You're in luck here. This has the plug already set up for us to plug in. So you can see here, it does have a little plastic cap on it. So you're gonna want to push this tab and then pull that cap off. So once that's exposed, you're going to take your plugin here, just simply put that into place. Nice audible click. Now, in the kit, you're going to see double-sided tape. We're going to mount our module up in a nice spot, that it's going to stay safe. There's actually quite a few spots. And if the double-sided tape isn't enough security, I'm also going to run a zip tie through just in case it gets wet or moisture, still gonna be holding up. So once we find a clean spot, we can go ahead and mount that. So I put my double-sided tape that's included in the kit on the flat side of the module. And I'm going to go ahead and just put it kind of on this flat spot here. Now with the rest of our loomed wires, I'm going to kind of first get my trailer wiring out of the way, but I'm going to kind of just put those together in a nice bundle and zip those together, and then attach that to our existing factory loom. And that's also going to give it a nice added sense of security. So even if that tape fails, this bundle of wire is going to keep it up and keep it from dragging on the ground or anything like that. Cleaning up a little bit before zipping it down. And we'll be ready to go. Now, you're going to want to route your four pole connector, close to where you're going to hook up to a trailer. You don't have to get too crazy, but you do want it out of the way. So what I'm actually going to do is kind of just follow my hitch here and that's going to keep it in a good accessible spot, and you're not really having to tuck a whole lot. So just for a little bit of added safety, I'll loop it around here once. There's a few spots that I can zip up if I need to, but pretty much, I'm going to just route this over here. And then we can have this poke out using our dust cover. We can get that si
