New 2022 Kia Sportage - Redesigned Compact Sporty SUV

The all-new fifth-generation Kia Sportage went on sale in its homeland of South Korea.

South Korean automaker Kia launched the Sportage in 2015 as a mid-size SUV, and the 2022 variant is its fifth-generation model. Kia has completely revamped the car's design with a fresh and elegant exterior while also offering all-wheel-drive function alongside other driver assistance technologies. The 2022 Kia Sportage also has a stealthy Nightfall edition along with the standard model. The car is available in four trims - LX, Nightfall, EX, and SX Turbo. Each trim has its own specialty in terms of design and perks, while the SX Turbo has the lineup's most powerful engine.

The new Sportage is based on Kia’s innovative Iso-Structure framework composed of high-tensile steel alloys. This new structure enables the Sportage to have enhanced structural rigidity. On the outside, the Sportage has a coupe-like silhouette with a clear impression of sophisticated elegance. A tiger-nose grille enhances its sporty look at the front with a highlighted front bumper housing the air intake and skid plate. The grille is accompanied by the LED headlight cluster that includes turn indicators and projector-beam fog lights on the bumper.

The standard wheel configuration is 17-inch alloy wheels, but customers can opt for a 19-inch option as well. The Nightfall edition comes standard with 18-inch alloy wheel wheels with a dark grey finish. Likewise, this edition also has some black styling touches, such as black roof rails, special black badging, fog lights with piano black surrounds, piano black front and rear bumper trim, and black satin window surrounds. Each trim level is featured with a panoramic sunroof with a power sunshade.

Dimensionally, Kia Sportage measures in width of 1,865mm, length of 4,660mm and height of 1,660mm and a boot space of 637 litres. The all-new Sportage is the first Kia vehicle to be available in long-wheelbase and short-wheelbase model variants, depending on the region.

Moving inside the new Kia Sportage , the cabin has now been transformed into a more luxurious and comfortable space for occupants. The cabin is dominated by a huge horizontal screen that houses the digital dashboard and the infotainment system. The vents for climate control now have a three-dimensional effect. 2022 Kia Sportage also gets a new multifunctional steering wheel.

Kia has also replaced the traditional gear lever with a rotary gear selector inside the 2022 Sportage. The gear also has a selector of driving modes , the heating and ventilation controls of the seats.

From launch, a high-tech 1.6-liter TGDI powertrain will be offered in the all-new Sportage line-up, generating 180PS and 27.0kgf.m torque. The four-cylinder unit realizes enhanced fuel efficiency through a new and optimized combustion process, breakthrough cooling technologies and key friction reduction measures, including an advanced integrated thermal management system and the use of a low-friction ball bearing.

Also included in the launch line-up is a new and highly efficient R2.0-liter diesel engine featuring an advanced variable geometry turbocharger that helps it to develop 186PS and 42.5kgf.m torque.

The 1.6-liter TGDI engine is mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission (7DCT), while a 6-speed manual transmission is also available. The new R2.0-liter diesel engine comes with an extensively re-engineered 8-speed automatic transmission.
